The Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) hold an annual convention to assemble delegates from YDSA chapters around the country. This year, the convention was held August 6th-7th in Chicago. PPro covered the lodging costs for three Princeton students to attend the convention as delegates.
Per Rowan Johnson '27, one of the delegates: "Over the course of two full days, we met with hundreds of other democratic socialists, formed new connections, and deliberated on resolutions affecting YDSA’s national structure, aims, and programs. We will certainly bring back the ideas from these deep, thoughtful, and multi-perspective discussions on socialist praxis to inform our organizing at home. We were especially excited to have made friends with other socialists in the NYC area, whom we hope to collaborate with on initiatives this year, such as canvassing for the Mamdani campaign. Our votes substantively shaped the direction of the national organization for the next year and beyond, including the passage of sanctuary campus campaigns as our new national priority and the election of a new National Coordinating Committee. We also really enjoyed exploring the heart of Chicago!"
